I spend quiet day with no alcohol and went to bed at 8pm on Saturday evening, woke up at 5am on Sunday morning; no shower; had a plenty of breakfast.
The Race Day:
I met Ian, who is also a London Marathon runner from the Rotary Club of Canary Wharf, at 8am and headed to the Greenwich together. The rain started and toilets have a long queue. I felt very cold and decided to take Ian's rain resistant light jumper in addition to my long sleeve running jumper.
Race started at 9:45am on time, but took around 20 minutes for the slow runner like me to reach the starting points as a lot of runner there. Many people wearing costume and enjoyed looking at and talking with them.
The first 10km was comfortable. I spotted Jonathan and Florian, the Rotary Club members who was marshalling at the Cutty Sark on the day. Jonathan took my photo and chatted one minutes then I went back to running until Canada Water. My leg started to react strange, the joint of my left leg soared and getting worse by every miles. Then I started walking.
From the London Bridge area, I found I could not run any more because of my sore joints for both legs. Later part of the marathon was very long, took 20 minutes for every mile!
I spotted Erik, my neighbour, at the pub called City Pride, he was watching football there but was outside to spot me. I handed Ian's jumper as it was not so cold even raining - actually humid.
I spotted Ken and Tom, the Rotary Club members who was marshalling at the Canary Wharf on the day. Ken was just about eating McDonald fried potato and asked me if I wanted, obviously No... I said Tom I was very tired and did not run any more, but he said, 20 Mile point is just over the corner and I would be able to complete anyway.
Kept walking, rain was getting harder, my both legs were sore, but audience started saying `Goal is not far! Keep going! You are doing very well!'. Around 4:20pm, I finally reached the Goal! Later, I found Ian finished 3 hours 18 minutes - 3 hours ealier!
After the Race
My legs were very sore and I walked very strange. On my way back to home, Police car stopped and asked me `Would you like lift?'. No wonder I looked walking very strange.
Had a nice bath, beer and wine, dinner and went to bed 10:30pm. I am still suffering pain this morning.
